Hi, Ruth here. I grew up in Stoke-on-Trent, spent some adult years in Preston and came back 9 years ago. Working pottery is a big part of my affection for Stoke-on-Trent. When the grandchildren visit I want somewhere we can all enjoy, with room for their questions and time for a sit-down.

I’d try the PlaySpace with them, then let everyone choose something in the galleries. Barlaston is a separate outing, so I wouldn’t squeeze it between two stops in Hanley.

We’d go to the playground first and leave the formal garden for afterwards. It’s easier to look at fountains when the children have already had their run around.
